I've also noticed the local paper is devoid of fact and is unable to research stories correctly (Bayside Bulletin And More Poor Journalism And yet Another Example ). This makes me angry because the paper has so much potential to be so good, it could embrace community values and be a useful tool in creating a creative and vibrant community. But it's not :( My main line of contention is the bias the paper is showing towards the policies it is reporting on ( I do need to declare a conflict of interest. My husband is an aerosol artist. See his business ). The article does not even mention graffiti as an art form even though aerosol art is now a commodity, regardless of the legitimacy of the works. Basically, the paper has only reported on one side of the story here and I would love to see more. I have contacted the paper about my concerns, only to be ignored.
And Now For The News.
A couple of things have been on my mind lately. As a student with a sociology background I think about things within this context. Not blowing my own horn (well, yes, yes I am it is MY blog!) but when I read the paper or watch the news, I think about things in accordance to hegemony, gender, habitus, and class. I completed a report for my end of semester project for social enterprise and it really got me thinking about local issues.
