On the website the facility advertises a graffiti removal business which operates in partnership with young people. I would like to point out, I find it HIGHLY UNLIKELY young people want to participate in this type of activity. Young people are more likely to be participants in the graffiti subculture than want to remove paint off a wall. The facility recently was granted $10,000 to establish this business. I think this is ridiculous. Not only is it a conflict of interest, as I stated before, show me a young person who is vaguely interested in this. I might also point out in POL 3022 it states:
7. Providing cultural and developmental opportunities through the engagement of the community in graffiti prevention and diversionary activities and programs.
8. Providing guidance to the community on the development of art murals and the management of mural projects.
I hardly think graffiti removal by a youth organisation is appropriate. Do you?
Another plan which I object to is the facilities plans to engage youth with koalas. Reading through the brief outline as the link describes, I truly doubt this venture will actually prove to be of benefit other than a box ticking, money wasting exercise. I know koalas are important, I even saw on the other night, walking home from the train after midnite, but really, is this plan relevant to the needs of young people?
IF you want to change this or want this justified, contact these people. It's about time the demos spoke:
