I had a chat with an editor of a newspaper today and it struck me how crap the news cycle really is! I am blown away by how blase the media (or maybe it was this one particular editor) was about researching stories and how many media releases are published as news articles. I don't expect all news outlets to be similar to The Monthly, or Four Corners but I was under the impression, accuracy of facts was more important than a deadline. Not so in this case.....
It also got me thinking about the different sources of media we have and I know Fairfax pretty much does what it wants due to ownership but really, why is this tolerated? How much does ownership and budget constraints effect what we hear or read as news? I've always seen ABC as the best place to get real news from as opposed to fluff and puff from other news sources, but now I'm more than sure it's the only way to go. Look out, I'm becoming more and more left wing by the day.
